Nichia and Cree diodes

May 2008 update:

We've now moved exclusively to using the T-type diode from Cree in all our Daylight/Cool White MR16 units whilst using Nichia diodes in all of our warm white applications.

With Cree and other LED manufacturers - LED quality is determined by its "BIN" classifications - all LEDs are manufactured with individual characteristics. They are determined by brightness and colour consistency. Usually they are separated into 2 classifications.

The first classification is designated O-type - these are usually not of consistent colour with lumens output being less than optimum. These are the type of diodes you find out in the general market.

The second classification are T-type - these have consistent colour output with lumens maintenance being equal to or in excess of 100% of lumens requirement. We use these in all our MR11 and MR16 diodes.
